Catagunya Dam- TAS
Cut and Core were contracted to carry out 53 No 1220mm diameter core holes up to 3300mm deep in the spillway face on Catagunya Dam, a large dam in central Tasmania. There were several technical challenges in this job, one being the very heavy reinforcing steel in the face of the spillway (30mm bars @ 150mm centres x 2 layers) of which we would be drilling down for almost two metres of the overall hole depth of 3300mm. The second challenge was the angle of the wall, with the core holes having to be plumb. Job specific machinery was designed and implemented for these works and the project was completed well ahead of programme.
